About the Event

Join us (in-person or virtually) on Wednesday, March 6th to discuss Pity for Evil: Suffrage, Abortion & Women's Empowerment in Reconstruction America. Authors Monica Klem and Madeline McDowell explore the work of our nation's earliest women's rights advocates and pioneering women doctors, who understood that abortion was a grave social ill. Instead of seeing abortion-seeking women as sinners, they had sympathy for their suffering and pity for the inequities that had brought them to such a crisis point. Our discussion will center on similarities between then and now, and how we can gain strength and hope from these inspirational women.
